Jim Miller, Producer

Jim Miller moved to Houston in 1992, after graduating from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.  He started his professional career as a stock broker but a few years later, followed his interest in construction entering the Surety Bond business with The Hartford.  During his twelve years with The Hartford he developed key relationships and played an integral role in growing the profitability of the office.  Continuing his development, Jim joined an underground utility & paving contracting filing the role of CFO.  With the knowledge he gained in construction combined with his knowledge in the surety business, Jim followed his calling.  In 2009, he accepted the position of Surety Manager for a regional office.  Under his direction, the branch increased its volume and territory coverage, becoming one of the largest offices in the country.  With 20 plus years of experience in the Surety & Bond industry, Jim stepped up to a new challenge.  In September of 2014, he began his role as Partner with Technical Assurance, LLC, a respected team of Surety Bond Brokers.  Following his passion of people and outdoors, Jim continues to build strong relationships both personally and professionally, at the same time enjoying an occasional round of golf, a hunting trip and some spare time “tinkering” in the garage.

Bob Gavos, Producer

Bob is a native Texan, spending early years in Dallas and is a graduate of Texas Tech University. He entered the Surety business in 1977 in Lubbock, Texas with The Aetna Casualty and Surety Company. After three years working West Texas and New Mexico for Aetna he transferred to Houston. He held increasing levels of responsibility with Aetna until they were purchased by Travelers. He continued his career with Travelers ultimately rising to Managing Director of the Houston operation. He played an important role in the overall growth and long-term profitability of the Houston Office. Bob with over 41 years’ experience has worked with General Contractors, Civil Contractors, Heavy Highway as well as Subcontractors of varying disciplines. His expertise in Surety has assisted these contractors in all areas of their operation including management, financial, contract and bond review. Bob retired form Travelers in June of 2017 and joined Technical Assurance. As a Partner with this highly respected Surety Bond group he maintains close ties with various contractors in the Houston and surrounding area as well as building strong relationships new clients.

Michele Bonnin, Senior Account Manager

Michele is a graduate of Austin College and has worked with Ed and Phil since 1992, accumulating nearly 20 years of contract surety bond experience.  She provides operational oversight to the client/surety procurement process and works closely with the partners in financial statement and jobs in progress analysis.

Michele also works closely with area owners, architects, and engineers with contract compliance and project finance, set aside requirements and has accepted responsibility for any Miscellaneous Surety requests including License bonds, Lein Releases, or other Financial Guarantees. 

Erica Cox, Account Manager

Erica graduated with Honors from Johnson & Wales University in May 2001, and accepted accounting roles with Service Systems Associates and The Houston Zoo.  As their Accounting Manager, Erica provided management and operational oversight to the company’s internal processes which included AIA payment applications, receivables, payables and the various financial reporting documents. 

Erica joined Technical Assurance in 2008, taking responsibility for the agency's procurement process including client job requests, carrier authorizations, document execution and delivery.  Erica is also responsible for the agency's Information Technologies and Data Management. 

Rebecca Garza, Account Manager

Rebecca graduated from Blinn College in 2009. Her primary duties include Bond execution and assisting in job progress analysis. She works closely with other associates by providing assistance in duties that include bid result monitoring, consent issuing and contract closing.

Before joining Technical Assurance in 2012, Rebecca worked at Prosperity Bank, a financial institution, as an Account clerk where she gained a high regard for client and customer satisfaction. Her knowledge and experience in account creation and financial information management has provided her strong foundation in her transition to surety, where she uses her exceptional personality to provide a comfortable and professional relationship with clients and partners.

Jillian McKenzie, Account Manager

Jillian began her insurance career in 2002, in the risk management field. Several years later she joined the surety industry as a senior underwriting assistant for the local branch of a large national surety company. Jillian joined Technical Assurance in 2013 as an account manager. She provides operational oversight and handles the surety procurement process for many of our clients. She analyzes client financial information and works with the producers to maintain the client accounts and ensure that their bonding needs are met. Jillian is a member of the Surety Association of Houston and enjoys networking at the Surety Association of Houston events.

Melissa Rothe, CPA,

Melissa holds a Master’s of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  She began her career working in the audit department for Deloitte, and subsequently for PricewaterhouseCoopers.  She later was the Derivatives Accounting Manager for Valero.  Melissa is a marathon runner, two-time Ironman Finisher and enjoys triathlons and cycling when not crunching numbers.  As a long-time resident of The Woodlands, she enjoys community involvement including serving on local boards and volunteering with several local charitable organizations. 

Melissa joined the Technical Assurance team of professionals in 2015 and is responsible for all  accounting functions including cash flow and variance reporting, financial statement preparation, audit preparation and tax reporting, and other special projects.
